About The Client

Third Iron is a technology start up based in Minneapolis, MN that develops next-generation content retrieval applications for the library market. Third Iron currently market an iPad/Amazon Kindle app called BrowZine, which delivers a library’s journals directly to their patrons’ devices.

Project Scope

Third Iron contacted us in the middle of 2012, in need of customization assistance for a premium WordPress theme they licensed. After a review of the theme and their needs (both immediate and long-term), we determined that they would be better off investing in a framework-based theme instead. They currently had one product on the market, with plans to expand that product as well as add more sometime in the future. They needed a theme that would highlight their product but easily expand later on as they added to their line.

The new site includes a customized child theme for the Genesis framework for WordPress. To keep costs down, we began with a predeveloped Studiopress theme and modified the widget-based Home Page to focus on their one product. As they add to their line, they can activate a slider on the home page to feature multiple products. The widgetized home page also makes it very easy to pop in content when and where they need it. The site is integrated with Mail Chimp for email marketing.

Third Iron also approached us with some advanced feature requests. We developed a content uploader, where their library customers can easily upload their holdings in large zip files. We also developed a widget-tool that enables libraries to create custom BrowZine widgets to feature on their LibGuides. Both tools were developed using Gravity Forms, a premium plugin for WordPress.

In addition to the site, we were also commissioned to create some graphics for their home page. We also designed a retractable trade show banner.
